Norman Brosterman is the author of Inventing Kindergarten on the history of the original kindergarten system and its influence on the development of 20th century abstract art and modern architecture. An expert on the history of children's building blocks, construction toys, and antique pattern-making and mosaic toys, Brosterman recently co-founded Kaleidograph Design LLC, to manufacture creative design toys in the spirit of Friedrich Froebel, the inventor of kindergarten. Brosterman sells historical architectural drawings and vintage Japanese Ikebana baskets, collects 19th century kindergarten artifacts and Japanese propaganda kimono from the 1930's, and spent a lot of time carving the large mahogany bas-relief sculptures shown herein.
