Its such a full on sensual and emotional experience, that's its often difficult to convey all that to the viewer in a photograph! In a photograph, all you can do is look. But - and here's the kicker - looking can make you THINK you smell and taste it - and that is the idea behind food photography. The thought process behind the shot is simple. To get the viewer to feel the feeling that they are actually there and ready to take a bite, or to create the warm fuzzy emotional response that delectable foods make you feel. Its all about composition, camera technique and light. But of course, starts with a great subject. Kinda like every other genre of photography ;)
