- On 1st February 1881, prestigious St Stephens College Delhi was started from rented premises of Shish Mahal in Katra Khushhal Rai in Kinnari Bazar in the bye lanes off Chandni Chowk, opposite the present Central Bank Building. The college started with five boarders and three professors, and was initially part of the University of Calcutta. Apart from Revds. Allnutt and Lefroy the staff included the Revd.H.C.Carlyon. Then the subjects taught in College were, Logic & Literature, Psychology & History, Mathematics and Persian.
