- Rufus Giwa Polytechnic is a citadel for Higher learning, one of foremost institutions in Nigeria. Instituted in 1978 during the Military Administration of Group Captain Ita David Ikpeme. Institution was, however, established by law passed by the ondo state House of Assembly in 1979 during the era of the late Chief (Dr) Micheal Adekunle Ajasin,the first Executive Governor of Ondo State. The name of the institution then was The Polytechnic, Owo and the first set of admitted students numbering 350 resumed on 7th january,1980. In 1984, during the Military Regime of commodore Bamdele Otiko,the name of the institution was changed to Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo. Similarly in 2003, the name of the institution was further changed to the present Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo.
